Oncidium Papilio is also called the ‘Giraffe Orchid’ or ‘Butterfly Orchid’. They are known for their continuous flower production capability. They produce flowers one after another on the same spike for 10 to 15 years. So you must never cut the flower spikes. Even if the flower spike break, it will start branching below the breakpoint and continue to flower.  This is just grown like Phalaenopsis orchid. An easy to grown and flower plant that can last for many years.

Description

Orchids have their profuse, delicate blooms, and evergreen leaves with hard caned. Their life cycle consists of three stages, which include the flowering stage (winter to spring), the growing phase (summer to autumn), and dormancy (late autumn to winter).

Care for Orchid

  • Use soilless potting mix, pH level 7.
  • Keep it in full to Partial Shade.
  • Foliar application of NPK 20:10:10 @ 0.2% at weekly intervals on the whole plant and potting media, it’s starting from 30 days after planting.
  • Mist or overhead sprinklers should use to provide water and to maintain humidity.
  • Re-pot the plant when grows large and overgrows its container, the potting material deteriorates, the plant has to be split or divided.
  • It is better to re-pot epiphytes every year. The best time for repotting is when fresh roots emerge on the basis of the previous year’s growth.
  • The dendrobium orchid should have a 50-70% humidity level around them. You should spray the water on the whole plant and potting medium for maintaining the humidity.
  • Also, you can select the area where a fountain or water flow is available.
  • After your orchid has finished blooming, use sharp scissors to cut off the flowering stem to promote regrowth.
  • Crowding of plants can lead to problems with insect infestations and fungus. Keep air circulate around the plant.

What to do when you receive Plant?

Remove the plant from the package. Keep in a place where it gets 50% sunlight. Orchids are better if they don’t receive direct sunlight.
